The city of Manazuru is quite small, but nice to walk around. The apartment is a bit away from the main station, but that can be walked. The view from the balcony is nice.

Here’s an English review based on your experience: **Review:** The hotel is conveniently located near the train station, with a direct bus stopping right at its entrance. As we approached the hotel, staff warmly greeted us with a bow—a lovely touch of Japanese-style hospitality. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, and the lounge offered a great selection of complimentary beverages, including alcoholic drinks. We also appreciated the complimentary minibar in our spacious room, which featured a private onsen with a scenic view. The service was exceptional, especially from Zhan, who went above and beyond to ensure a seamless stay. Upon hearing our needs, he proactively assisted us and even checked shuttle bus details despite us not using it. Notably, while previous reviews mentioned language barriers with staff, the hotel has clearly taken feedback to heart: Zhan, originally from Jiangxi, China, delivered impeccable Japanese-style service while effortlessly communicating in Chinese—a standout detail that deserves praise. This thoughtful blend of cultural authenticity and guest-centered improvements makes this hotel a top choice.

Location was very convenient; about a 7 minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto station (which is just a 15-minute railway ride from Odawara station, where most patrons come from). Note that the shopping area in the immediate vicinity closes promptly at around 5pm so get your shopping in before you turn into the ryokan. Food was delicious, very filling and well-presented. Dinner was served punctually at 6pm and breakfast at 8am. Staff were phenomenal, especially the main innkeeper - despite not knowing much English, she was so kind and accommodating. For baths, there were so many options for a one-night stay, but all of the ones I experienced were great, especially the private rooftop one (which costs extra, keep in mind); I imagine it might be a bit uncomfortable for taller people though, the bath on the roof is not very big. The room itself was great - spacious and the futons were so soft and comfortable. The ensuite bathroom was very clean and well-equipped.

The staff is composed of some of the most lovely people I've ever met, especially the nice lady that prepared our meals in the room (as per the kaiseki hotel tradition) has been wonderful! The dinner was incredible, as was the stay in general. The room had a gorgeous view of the river and the private onsen you can book with a little surcharge was magical! The Ryokan has a truly nostalgic vibe that was exactly what I was looking for in my stay.

Such an amazing stay, definitely our favorite of the trip. Highly recommend staying in a traditional ryokan for the experience when in Japan. Design enthusiasts will love the aesthetics of this place, and the owner greets you and checks you in (he's a New York City fashion school graduate!). They give complimentary souvenir hand towels as well as traditional robes - so cool. And a friendly house cat on premises too.

Such a charming property to experience living in a real and old Japanese house and sleeping on futons. The communal toilets and baths (you have to book bath timings for your room) were not as inconvenient as expected, and it was an interesting experience. If travel is all about new experiences, Ryokan Plum is a great choice! A short 10-min walk from Odawara Station, where there are buses and trains to Hakone.

Gorokichi the mascot cat, codes to get in the hotel and room, provided yukata and slippers are very nice, ryokan prioritizes local goods (tea, coffee, yukata are all locally made), access to terrace, rooms are luxury quality, powerful AC, clean floors, clean rooms, large trash disposal area in lobby, shared kitchenette with dishes and microwave provided, mini fridge, western bed available
