Featuring a garden, the 3-star ryokan has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a private bathroom. Gakuen-ji Temple is 11 km away and Hamayama Park is 15 km from the ryokan. Having been to Izumo before and knowing it would not disappoint, I decided to take my family for another vacation in January. We stayed at Nipponia Izumo - Hirata Cotton Road for three nights. It is a former traditional sake brewery house converted into a kominka style hotel. Situated on a quiet historical sake and soy sauce business street, the hotel not only provided a unique home sweet home service but also amazing fine dining experience. Their in-house chef made each meal using local products to create feasts that delighted the senses. I highly recommend this hidden gem of an accommodation if you do visit Izumo.

The staff were very helpful and pleasant, the food was among the best food we had on our entire japan trip. We traveled with one vegetarian and they were able to make great vegetarian food as well which we really appreciated! The inn was cozy and well managed and we had everything we needed. The location by the river and so close to Matsue Castle was also amazing. We can recommend this inn and Matsue city to everyone interested in seeing a different japan!

At the ryokan, each unit includes bed linen and towels. Ryokan Koyokan Is a rare find set in an amazing forest location alongside the Kiyomizu-dera temple. We loved the absolute peace and quiet after a few hectic days in some of Japan’s big cities. The Ryokan is run by three generations of the same family, with the first member of the fourth generation a recent addition. Food is an amazing combination of mainly vegetarian dishes with some fish. Nearest railway station is at Yasugi from where you can get a taxi. We opted though to hire a car at Matsue Station for the half hour drive, this also meant easy travel to the nearby Adachi Museum of Art. Definitely recommend Koyokan for a relaxing experience in an amazing location.

Tamatsukuri Onsen, Matsue
The ryokan also offers bike hire. Lake Shinji is 4.1 km from Onsen Guest House Aobato no Su, while Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum is 8 km from the property. The nearest airport is Yonago Airport, 22 km from the property. Fantastic! Little towns like this will often have old-skool ryokans and cheaper alternatives (minshuku, hostels) that aren't nearly as good. This place is the perfect, more reasonably-priced, alternative to the big ol' ryokans. Was expecting a minshuku-looking place but, no, from the very first impression this was a lovely, big, beautiful place with a cool vibe. The staff were very sweet, the bath was small but much nicer than you'd expect for the price and the room was very spacioius indeed. Breakfast was dead good and the older gentelman who played the shamisen and told us tales of the area was lovely. Would 100% stay here again.

Great onsen-nice breakfast-spacious rooms. great valye for money
It was amazing with tatami mats in the hotel and not only in rooms. It felt good walking on them in the lobby and everywhere else. We liked very much onsen as well. I was there every evening during our stay.
Kitchen is nice with complimentary coffee and tea. Everything else was to my satisfaction. Futon beds over tatami are harder than a mattress but of course it's what was advertised so I'm ok with it.
This hotel is just stunning. Japanese-style, with tatami floors and a great onsen, sublime breakfast, perfect amenities and extras such as manga library, it is worth a visit in itself.
A great way to experience tatami mat bedroom. Everything was great except for the lack ventilation toilet. The house was tip top clean. Owner was friendly. Very near to the station and almost everything is a walk away. The futon was comfy. Room was warm with heater. Very peaceful area too.
Very, very, very beautiful ryokan. The owner already greeted us at the entrance and was extremely friendly. The room was also beautiful and made you feel like living in Edo period Japan. The onsen was very relaxing, and after it, my partner was offered to wear a nice yukata for dinner. The food was extraordinary (although it could mostly not be adjusted for my admittedly picky partner, see below), both in terms of taste and in the way it was presented. I would definitely recommend this ryokan anytime to any traveller.
Great location, the staff is extremely kind and welcoming, the room (double + tatami area) is comfortable. The onsen is small, but very pleasant
Hoshi Ryokan was a warmly welcomed few days …my good fortune was to coincide with Tsuwano’s traditional music and dance festival….the ryokan was positively helpful..I felt looked out for as have only a few phrases in Japanese…delicious food beautifully presented with a range of local sakes…tatami mats and futon in a gorgeous room..
