If you backpack to Phitsanulok, stay at the Karma hostel. Mark is a most wonderful host that will help you get to know the city in an instant. The rooftop is amazing and a great place to meet fellow travelers. Bonus tip: If your stay overlaps with Clemens (a loyal customer of the Karma hostel) ask if he wants to show you around. He knows a lot about the city and makes a great guide :D
