When I think of our short stay in Ypres I may remember chatting with Daphne at the Albion desk and bar as much as our visit to the Flanders Museum just around the corner! Besides the kindness of the owners, our room was modern but with architectural features that honored the past. The high tech skylight looked up on the steeple of the nearby church. It is such a wonderful "inn" we could happily have stayed in the hotel if the weather was not good. And that was our backup plan. The location could not be better. A very quick walk to Makt and Berg and easy access to the real Brugge on the outer rings. We had the attic room with some stunning views over the canal as the sun set. The number 2 bus was an easy way to get to and from the station. Giles is a terrific host. Very accommodating, full of great advice on where to eat non-tourist food.
