The shower at the room was very nive and clean.

Food was exceptional with myriad of unique local tastes and seasonal twists.

Beautiful and cozy ryokan at Hirayu Onsen, about a 45 min drive from Takayama. The kaiseki dinner was AMAZING. They really loaded us up with good quality, buttery hida Beef grilled over a charcoal irori. We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the dinner - a lovingly prepared multi course meal with grilled veggies and beef, soba noodles, tempura, sashimi, dessert. It’s a very local place for many Japanese tourists - most of the signs, menus were all in Japanese so we had some trouble with translation. Staff were lovely and helpful!

Dinner was delicious. Fresh fish and other dishes. Beautifully cooked and presented. We loved the tatami rooms we stayed in. Highly recommended!

The property also provides free pick-up service from JR Takayama Station. Free shuttle bus service is available when check-in, check-out, after dinner. The home was beautiful, spacious and clean. The hospitality was unbelievable, lovely, attentive, kind- I can’t say enough good things about Tai, his mother and the inn. It is gorgeous, spacious yet cozy. It was a top experience and should not be missed. The inn is an hour walk from town and is best accessed by car but Tai will pick you up and drive you around. He took us to a neighborhood we were interested in for dinner and then picked us up immediately afterwards. Breakfast was delightful and they even made a special vegetarian dish for me. Bathrooms are shared yet private. The rooms are huge and so pretty! The traditional mattresses were cozy and comfy.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. Very charming and aesthetic little hotel restaurant located in the woods just out of town. With nice little onsen - showers. Fantastic cuisine and wine (let the chef-owner pic for you). And extremely friendly and accommodating owner couple happy to pick you up / drop you off in town.

Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout. Very old beautiful traditional Japanese Ryokan. You can really feel the hospitality from the moment you enter untill the moment you checkout. The included dinner was something I honestly was a little scared of (not knowing what you will eat sometimes is challenging) but they exceeded all my expectations. Everything they gave me to eat was absolutely AMAZING. i regret not having asked the recipe for certain dishes.
